And there of course exists the variations between these two types. This is a very important factor as the costing of the diamond and the subsequent jewellery sold depends heavily on this. The strongest color is when these stones show a blue haze. The blue fluorescence has the highest quality but there are other factors which need to be considered before zeroing in on one. Mostly experts recommend going for the one which is neither too strong not too light in its blue fluorescence. But they all advise against getting a diamond even if they have a good blue hue but along with that if they exhibit a white shade. This is a clear indication that they are not of the good quality that one is looking at owning.

The fact of the matter is diamonds with a very strong hue is very rare and they are extremely costly and they usually cost the earth. Their color grade varies from the official classification of J to M. When there is a high fluorescence level, it makes the passing of the light very difficult and hence makes it appear milky. The yellow glow of diamonds lowers the original price of a diamond, while diamonds emitting out a bluish luminescence have more value as their prices rise because of the blue colored fluorescence.

In many cases, diamond fluorescence goes unnoticed, thus has no significant effect on its price and value.

Gemological Institute of America or more commonly known as GIA carried a detailed research regarding people's perception of blue fluorescence given out by a diamond. Common masses and trading professionals were inquired whether the fluorescence of diamond affects them or not. The results of this study exhibited the fact that non-traders could not differentiate between diamonds that give fluorescence and non-fluorescent diamonds

The luminescence given out by a diamond may at times enhance its value in the eyes of its user. People unaware of this term or property of diamond, might consider this low of light given by a diamond special and beautiful. Perception of the fluorescence of diamonds varies from individual to individual, and trader to trader; and can be positive or negative depending on the type of glow given out by the diamond.
